Usually on a pump track, on a borrowed bike, with a parent pretending not to be nervous. LAMBO builds for that rider first.

Where to take a first ride

Peggie's Pump TrackThe Zip Trail, Minocqua. Built in 2021 with help from the Peggie Post Mallery Wisconsin Conservation Fund and a lot of local donors. No pedaling required, and the connector trails let you roll straight in from the easy loop.Big Blue Ox at the ZipThe easy cruiser loop. Ride in on Gem Trail from the parking lot; every feature on the harder trails has a ride-around when you're ready to try one.Musky Mountain Phase 1Machine-built flow designed so almost anyone can ride it. Baitfish, a one-mile beginner loop that starts and ends at the parking lot, is the current fund drive.

The youth clinic

LAMBO runs a kids' clinic at the Zip with Bike Patrol on hand: bike checks, skills on the pump track, then a group ride on the easy loop. Dates are announced in The Dirt and on Facebook, and the clinic is covered in the news posts below.

A bike that fits

The annual Bike and Summer Silent Sports Swap is the cheapest way to get a kid on a bike that fits this year, and to pass along the one they outgrew. Bikes that don't sell are often donated to the youth clinic.
